“The best foundation you can wear is healthy, glowing skin.” -Dr.Trevor Cates

Oils from certain herbs, fruits and nuts have amazing benefits to create glowing skin or anti-aging, wound healing and sun protecting effects. While some people think they shouldn’t apply oils to their skin, especially if their skin is oily or acne-prone, some oils actually balance the skin’s pH and lipid content to improve skin health. The results are often clear, gorgeous, youthful, glowing skin.

For Hydrated, Glowing Skin

Virgin Sea Buckthorn Oil

The ultimate tissue healer, sea buckthorn oil is used externally to even skin tone and texture. It also improves skin issues such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles associated with aging and is full of antioxidants that protect the skin. The high concentration of the rare Omega 7 as well as Vitamin A and Vitamin E intensely moisturize and encourage cell turnover for bright, clear, healthy glowing skin and improved wound healing. This oil is suitable for dry, dehydrated, aging and sensitive skin types.

Red Raspberry Seed Oil

Red raspberry seed oil is jam-packed with skin loving goodies like vitamin A and other essential oils. It is known for its abilities to naturally protect the skin from the damaging effects of UV sun exposure. Red raspberry seed oil is an excellent free radical scavenger and antioxidant, and a rich source of alpha and gamma tocopherol as well as y-tocopherol, along with carotenoids. It also has superior anti-inflammatory properties. This oil is suitable for all skin types and is especially beneficial for inflamed skin caused by acne or rosacea redness.

Cranberry Seed Oil

What’s really exciting about cranberry seed oil is that it’s the only oil we know of so far that naturally contains a balanced ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids. It absorbs well into the skin, giving you great hydration and glowing skin. It also means your skin is more likely to absorb the potent antioxidants, Vitamin E, and other nutrients from the oil. This oil is suitable for all skin types including acne prone skin.

Virgin Sweet Almond Oil

This nourishing oil creates glowing skin and is packed full of vitamins A, B, B2, B6, and unrefined and unsaturated essential fatty acids which are recommended in the treatment of skin disorders including psoriasis, eczema, dry skin and erysipelas (a type of infection). This oil benefits all skin types due the amazing combination of skin healing properties.

How do these oils work on the face?

Plant oils are similar to the kind of oil that your skin produces naturally. They are easily recognized and absorbed by the skin without clogging pores and can bind moisture to the skin while strengthening skin cell membranes. Oils also act as the skin’s lipid barrier, protecting against extreme temperatures, dry climates, and over-cleansing while leaving you with the glowing skin you’ve always wanted. Because of these benefits, they’re good for both dry and acne-prone skin as well as mature skin.

How to use oils in your skin care routine:

Many people are confused about how to use oils properly on the skin. When using oils topically on the face, it’s important to use and apply them correctly to get the best results. You can incorporate these oils into your daily routine easily and discover how clear, smooth and ageless your skin can appear. Oils need to be applied differently to your skin than a cream or moisturizer. Oils should be patted into the skin to ensure superior absorption of essential nutrients. Place 2-4 drops of the oil into the palm of your hand and warm the oil by gently rubbing your palms together and then push and press onto your face and neck. If using oil for the first time always do a “patch test” on a small area of skin first to check for any possible allergic reactions. Purchase oils that are certified organic or are sourced from a supplier you trust. Check ingredient labels to make sure than no synthetic ingredients are added and you’re getting just the pure oil.

How to wash your face with oil:

Cleansing with oils can nourish and hydrate your skin while removing dirt and makeup. Using the oils above for cleansing can work on all skin types, even acne-prone skin. People with oily or acne prone skin tend to over cleanse and dry out their skin with harsh cleansers, which can irritate the skin and lead to imbalances in skin pH. Cleansing with oils correctly can clean and moisturize without causing irritation while leaving you with glowing skin. Place a warm, damp washcloth on your face for 20 seconds. Remove the washcloth, apply your oil of choice to the skin, let the oil sit for 30 seconds, and use a warm washcloth to gently wipe the oil away. This will hydrate your skin without leaving it feeling greasy.

Today I’m focusing on external use, but you can also enjoy the benefits of some of these oils internally such as with Sea Buckthorn Oil. This amazing oil boasts a number of benefits. Not just those that help nourish skin, but as a superior source of omega 7 along with vitamins, minerals, over 190 phytonutrients, omega 3s and antioxidants.
